(MJHL) Three alumni named Ed Belfour Award winners......

A trio of MJHL alumni have been awarded the Ed Belfour High Performance Award: Daniel Campbell, Craig Cornelsen and Greg Reimer.

All three players will receive an equal portion of a $2,500 scholarship fund, explained MJHL Commissioner Kim Davis.

“The objective of the MJHL is to combine high-level hockey and education,” said Davis. “Scholarships such as this allow players to attend post-secondary institutions, in partnership with their hockey.”

Campbell (Winnipeg South Blues) is now enrolled at the University of Manitoba, while Cornelsen (Winkler Flyers) is attending Briercrest College in Saskatchewan. Reimer (Winkler Flyers) plans to attend a post-secondary institution in 2010.

This prestigious scholarship is awarded annually to MJHL players who display exemplary skills in hockey, education and citizenship, explained Davis.

This is the eighth year the Ed Belfour High Performance Award has been given out to MJHL grads. Previous winners were Gavin McHale of Portage Terriers and Andrew Rewucki Selkirk Steelers.

Belfour, an NHL rookie of the year, all-star and Stanley Cup winner, played goal in the MJHL with the Winkler Flyers.
