The Central Canadian Hockey League (CCHL) will be hosting an Early Bird Showcase in Bowmanville, Ontario at the Garnett B. Rickard Recreational Complex on Friday September 18th, 2009 and Saturday September 19th, 2009. This Showcase will provide scouts and recruiters from various higher levels of hockey with the opportunity to view each team within the CCHL during a period of two days. Two games will take place on Friday evening followed by an additional nine games throughout the day on Saturday.
Additionally, in an effort to inform and answer questions regarding the purpose, agenda, objectives and goals of the newly formed league, a series of information sessions will be run throughout the Early Bird Showcase. The sessions, approximately fifteen minutes in length and scheduled at various times throughout the course of both days to accommodate as many people as possible, will inform and educate players, parents, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) recruiters, Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) recruiters, Ontario Hockey League (OHL) scouts, and National Hockey League (NHL) scouts along with fans and supporters of the CCHL. Attendance for at least one of these sessions is mandatory for all players.
These sessions will provide an opportunity to outline the principles and practices that the league will operate under during the 2009-2010 season, explain the formation of the league and the reasons behind it, and discuss the league's objectives for the coming season in an upfront fashion, consistent to one of the CCHL's primary mandates of eliminating mystery and restoring credibility to Junior A hockey in Ontario. An opportunity will also be extended for those in attendance to ask questions at the end of the session.
On day two of the Bowmanville Showcase weekend - Saturday September 19th, 2009 - a separate information session geared specifically toward and open to all media, broadcast and game day personnel will be held to discuss the importance of quality game day presentations including consistent and professional public address, game day programs and in-arena music. This session will provide examples of what can easily be achieved with a limited staff and offer a forum for an open exchange of ideas among those in attendance, all in an effort to improve not just the presentation of individual teams but the league as a whole.
Scheduled times for these sessions will be made available in a future press release, on team websites and at the CCHL website, thecchl.com closer to the Bowmanville Early Bird Showcase.
The twenty one (21) team league includes eight teams who were participants in the OHA sponsored Central Division pilot project (Cobourg Cougars, Hamilton Red Wings, Markham Waxers, Newmarket Hurricanes, St. Michaels Buzzers, Stouffville Spirit, Toronto Junior Canadiens and the Wellington Dukes) along with thirteen additional entrants from across the OJHL -Seguin Bruins, Orangeville Crushers, Lindsay Muskies, Peterborough Stars, Bowmanville Eagles, Burlington Cougars, Whitby Fury, Streetsville Derbys, Ajax Attack, Dixie Beehives, Pickering Panthers, North York Rangers, and the Upper Canada Hockey Club. The CCHL emphasizes rigorous operating standards and an increased commitment to developing young hockey players for the Ontario Hockey League, Canadian Interuniversity Sport, National Collegiate Athletic Association and other higher levels within the sport in Canada and abroad.
