(MJHL) Kings Win Season Opener......

The Kings opened the 2009/10 season on the road against the Winnipeg Saints Friday night. After going 4-1-1 in the pre-season, which was followed by a week of practice, the Kings were anxious to raise the curtain on the new season. Friday's game was also the home opener for the Saints after going 6-0 in the pre-season.

Dauphin would start the game with a lot of energy, however they wouldn't be able to capitalize on a few quality scoring chances very early on. The Saints would open the scoring at the 4:07 mark, when Chartier's shot was redirected and managed to find the back of the net. It would take the Kings just over 2 minutes to reply, as Ryan Dreger netted a powerplay marker (from Luke and Lamb) to tie it at one. The Kings were outshot 12-9 in the opening period.

The second period would once again see the Saints jump ahead early. Winnipeg would make it a 2-1 game just under 3 minutes into the middle frame. 18 year old defenceman Tyler Gaudry would reply for the Kings at the 7:32 mark. Gaudry would score his first MJHL goal when he fired home a one-timer from the point. Steven Shamanski and Bryce Lamb would earn the assists on the power play goal that tied it up at 2. After the Saints took a 3-2 lead, another new comer to Dauphin would score with less than :01 second remaining in the second period. Mike Boese (from Dreger and Luke) would score Dauphin's third power play marker of the game to tie it at 3 after 40 minutes, much to the delight of all the Dauphin fans in attendance.

20 year old Jimmy Carter would give Dauphin their first lead of the game just under 7 minutes into the third period. Carter would lead the rush down the right wing and score on a wrist shot through the 5-hole. Dauphin native Dallas Drysdale would pick up the lone assist on the go ahead goal. Winnipeg's Richard Little would net a power play goal to tie the game at 4 midway through the third period. Friday's game would need overtime to break the tie. The Kings outshot Winnipeg 14-9 in the third period.

With :20 seconds remaining in overtime, Bryce Lamb would walk in and fire a wrist shot past the Saints' netminder to push the Kings past Winnipeg 5-4. Ryan Dreger would pick up the assist, his third point of the night, on Lamb's first as a King.

Joe Caligiuri would earn the win in his first start with the Kings, stopping 30 of the 34 shots he faced. 20 year olds Ryan Dreger and Bryce Lamb led the way offensively with 3 points each.

The Kings went 3 for 6 with the man advantage, while Winnipeg went 2 for 6.
