(USHL) Battle of Iowa Highlights Busy Weekend......

USHL preseason is in full swing and this weekend is packed with hockey action as 11 games are on the schedule.

The inaugural "Battle of Iowa" takes center stage as all four USHL teams from the state of Iowa hit the ice to determine bragging rights as the mythical state champion. The event begins on Saturday at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena as the Des Moines Buccaneers and Sioux City Musketeers meet at 3:00 PM before the Waterloo Black Hawks take on the host Cedar Rapids RoughRiders during the evening contest at 7:00 PM. The winners of Saturday's games will meet in the championship on Sunday while the other two teams will square off in a consolation matchup.

In Chicago, last season's Cup winners will make a visit as the defending Clark Cup champion Indiana Ice play the Chicago Steel on Friday evening. The defending Anderson Cup champion Green Bay Gamblers will then play the Ice on Saturday at the home of the Steel (The Edge Ice Arena – Bensenville, IL). The weekend wraps up in Chicago as the Steel host the Gamblers on Sunday afternoon.

Friday night also features the Sioux Falls Stampede visiting the Fargo Force and the Omaha Lancers visit the Tri-City Storm. The Stampede will then host the Force at the Larson Ice Center in Brookings, South Dakota while the Storm travel to Lincoln to play the Stars.

The USHL celebrates its 31st season of junior hockey in 2009-10. With 190 players from the 2008-09 campaign already committed to NCAA Division I schools and 17 NHL Entry Draft picks taken from the League's rosters this past season, the USHL is the nation's foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
