Who’s not: Brady Wacker (NCAA), Scott Schroeder (NCAA), Steve Schroeder (NCAA), Matthew Kirzinger (NCAA), Tanner Vandesype (ACAC), Tory Allan (NCAA), Nick Kalnicki (senior hockey in Drake), Taylor Piller (traded), Joel Belair (?), Dimitri Levin (?), Garrett Leedahl (WHL), Kendrew Friesen (traded)

Who might be new:

1991 G Ryan Campbell (Beardy’s SMAAAHL 19-5-2, 3.06, .890) … He plays the puck extremely well, and was a big part of a nice playoff run.

1992 D Josh Roach (Sask Blazers SMAAAHL 34-5-20-25) … Very skilled defenseman, has good size, should be a good SJHL player for years to come.

1991 D Brendan Kotyk (Regina SMAAAHL 43-8-15-23) … AP’d with Humboldt during run last year, and is on his way after a tryout in the WHL. “We like his physical structure,” says Dean Brockman.

1991 D Cade Kimery (Yorkton SMAAAHL 40-2-3-5) … He may have slipped through the cracks. Brockman sees him as tremendously skilled and will need adjustment period, but looks like a very good player.

1990 D Calum McLeod (St. Andrews Prep School 47-7-18-25) …. Stay at home, doesn’t panic, has good poise despite lack of experience. Only stands to get better. He played in Aurora ON last year.

1990 F Jeremy Boyer (Seattle WHL 71-21-35-56) … Currently suspended by the WHL for not reporting. The SJHL recognizes this suspension. He’s an elite player who wants to play in Humboldt and the Broncos want him, but there are obstacles to overcome.

1990 F Justin Buzzeo (Chatham Jr B 52-24-56-80) … Immediately, the Broncos get a first line player in their line-up. Ferris State is rumoured to be highly interested.

1990 F Griffin Lacey (St. Andrews Prep School 43-23-21-44) … A good two-way player, plays off wing really well and will contribute offense. He figures to be a top six forward right off the hop.

1990 F Steve Taylor (Collingwood OJHL 49-8-18-26) … A Nick Kalnicki clone, he’s a good two-way player who can play anywhere from first line to third line.

1990 F Derek Schemenauer (Sask Quakers PJHL 18-9-7-16) … He was a regular in the Humboldt dressing room last year as an AP, expected to play more this year. He’s not afraid to muck it up and he has that ‘hate to lose’ attitude.

1991 F Spencer Baht (Beardy’s SMAAAHL 42-32-31-63) … He scored a lot at the midget level and when he gets his feet wet in the SJHL, he should do the same in Junior ‘A’.

1991 F Mike Collins (Sicamous KIJHL 44-10-15-25) … A big player with tremendous upside. Size and skill are nice combinations.

1992 F Troy Gasper (Sask Blazers SMAAAHL 40-10-20-30) …. Brockman says Gasper has unlimited potential to be an excellent two-way player in the SJHL.

1991 F Patrick Tran (Tisdale SMAAAHL 44-8-13-21) … A good two-way forward will kill penalties, is very smart, and skates well.

1989 F Trent Rumpel (Wadena FLHL 13-15-19-34) … He played in Estevan and Nipawin previously before going the senior route this past season. He’s, obviously, a player with experience and he has grit and good intelligence.

1991 F Tyler Peers (Pembina Valley MMAAAHL 44-18-38-56) … Smart offensive player with tremendous upside.

1991 F Aren Buchholz (Battlefords SMAAAHL 42-6-7-13)…A solid two-way forward.

1990 F Mike Graham (Comox Valley VIJHL)… A big physical player, takes up a lot of space and patrols his wing.

Notes: “Our forwards are as deep as we’ve had in recent years, but our defense is younger and inexperienced. I think we will be competitive,” says Humboldt head coach Dean Brockman. The fact of the matter is that the Broncos have won three SJHL championships in a row and they’ll be in the mix for a fourth.
